Global Citizenship Day (GCD) 1
Me and Kul's Presentation about Political War
Tuesday 10th November 2009
Tuesday 10th November 2009
At first i was not sure that i chose the subject yet so i thought i could chat with Kul first before we agreed but then Kul had stright away told Carloyn that Kul wanted to have a Political War without asked me first and wanted start next week, i was so shocked but then agreed to for Kul's sake. I was not keen to Political War(PW) and i didnt know anything at all, it made me felt unconfident but i try my best.
I have thought about WW1 and WW2 cos i know some of it, so i can presentation about it, luckily!! Ooo also Deaf Political, i was told i can do that too which i didnt realised so i was happy to do it, all thanks to Carloyn! :)
It was our first ever GCD of the group and also first boys too.
On the first day I was so nervous about me being presentation and Kul seem fine and he seem so exctied about that, i was so shaking and nervous, and start panic cos our bus was so late and the raining was so awful, i was so worried about my presentation and i should be there about 8.30am but i arrived there about 9.30am which my presentation were start at 9.30am....but luckily few people was there cos of the bad weather...and also bless Carloyn, she told me to caln down and take a drink and can start my presentation...you never know how i was so reviled!
When i start my presentation, i realised i was so nervous and keep forget what i should say, i keep looking at the papers that i wrote it. But the audienced was so patient with me...thank you all, my darlings!
The drama, i made them to act their characters about WW2, it was so funny to watch them and do silly things to do! I think it was my best moment of my presentation.
In the end, the feedback from audienced gave me, they said i should done with powerpoint,i never thought about it, it was just last min to done that. And also, they can tell Kul and i dont work each other well cos we just didnt on that well. So i agreed cos we should work each other to make sure we understand what going on etc etc. Never mind eh?
Hope you enjoy to watch the photos and videos

Work Placement
I.W.P
At first week, my work placement should be in Royal Cross School, but then it was a half term so my work counterpart went to work different place.
Me and Gunjana meet up at Preston Bus Station so we took a bus to Blackpool and arrive there about 10am, we went to Hairdressing the shop called I.W.P (not sure whats full called), the Deaf man called Iain who are hairdressing and it is his own business in the shop.
| Gunjane tidy it up!! |
Iain and Steve who are Iain's husband, explain us they had been working each other for many years. I had explain to Gunjane what did Iain say about they are married, and Gunjane was shocked and didn't understand the sign 'Gay', I had explain what gay mean and that they are gay, and they don't like girls etc etc.
Bless Gunjana, she told me she had a finally see gay people cos she never see them before. She said in Nepal, a few people are gay but not many people. Its really Interested!
So we had leave there at 6pm after we had a tidy the shop. Blah! We arrive at Preston about 7pm and we meet Dee and Kul waiting for us!
I really enjoy to talking with Gunjane cos she was so easy on with. She was more full of life and chatterbox! :)
| I made that hair and Gunjane liked it! :) |
Royal Cross Primary School
Finally, I can work with Babita for good...well other six months! I told her that i don't know where is our work placement yet, i asked bus driver to where to Royal Cross School, Babita was bit shocked that i can speak. I had explain to her that i can speak but not brilliant as hearing people, sometime people can understand me and someone time they don't! I was nervous to arrive to school, just excited. I can tell that Babita was bit nervous but she wasn't say anything about she being nervous. I do understand as it was not her first language.
We arrive at Royal Cross Primary School. We meet the Head of the teacher, Ruth Nottingham, she was lovely lady, she can sign BSL with her voice. She strongest to believe to sign and speak same time. I do agree with her, i do believe that Deaf child could learn how to sign and speak same time til they grow up and choice whatever they want to speak or sign or both! Ruth shown us around in the school and introduced us to the Teachers of the Deaf and Deaf Children. It was so small school, i didn't realised that as i thought it was bigger school. We were told that we have a hearing children in as well...i thought it was deaf school? But some of them were special need or cant speak well. I didn't realised it. Babita was same too.
At first we went to year two, the teacher of the Deaf called Vicky, oh my, she remind me of Kate Hampton, my old best friend from Deaf Club in Cornwall, what in the way of her signing and movement. I thought 'I do miss Kate!' We doing the maths, oh my, how rubbish my maths was...but then we doing the numbers with animal, like how many the animals on one box, children have to work out how many. Bless them, they were so hard to work out with it. I have to act like i was stupid and didn't know very well with maths (before you say anything, i know I'm crap with maths but not that BAD maths!) so the children was yelled at me 'You are wrong you are wrong!' I was so laughing so hard! :)
Babita was shocked to see the deaf boy who can speak, the boy come to me and talking to me without signing, i do understand him, cos his lip are so clear. Babtita couldn't understand him as she don't use lipread at all. When i talking with him, I'm always use my signing and speak same time so babtia and a little boy understand me. I did really enjoy with it.
I realised i do want to be TA of the deaf in the future. Bless Babtita, some of children come to Babita and talking, Babita was bit baffled, so i come to her and sort out and explain to Babita so she sort it out herself...i don't want to jump in and sort out myself, just explain to her that's all. As if i was her interpreter!
It was so great working with you, Babita, i will never forget it.
Love you

Host home in Broughton
When we arrive in DeafWay first, we were waitng for Ulrike to come first, i was bit nervous and see what our host home would be like. And Kul was just relax and not too worried.
Thats funny that Kul and i was so opption and still are!
Kul were bit stubborn, relax, quiet, axe and personal.
I was like, open minded, fanatical, doubt, rushing and sentient.
Anyway, When Urike arrived in Deafway, i was thought she was india woman as Carloyn told me one of them were India and Germany....i thought Urike were india cos of her name but really she was german...Oops! I realised her husband was India...(really he is from Phillippens cos i was told he was india and realised i was wrong and he is from Phillippens) When Urike started sign language.....i couldn't understand her cos she used International Sign Language
Urike took me and Kul to Broughton for first time...i was so exctied and see whats our host home would be like.
When I arrive at Urike's house, wow, it was so cool, so different from my own house in Cornwall, my parents is very fussy at their house, must be clean, and must be tidy up after you finish the dinner or whatever. Urike is so different, she was so laid back, didnt too worried about anything, of course we have to tidy up but not too perfect, which was good for me beacuse i was smiler to my parents. My dad is bit worse than Mum, cos Dad grew up with her blind mother, dad must have to tidy the house so Nan dont have to fall over that she couldn't see anything. Thats why we grew up and told we have to tidy up the house.
Urike's house was so full of different stuff.
We arrive in our bedroom, it was so big, it had a big TV, two beds...it had a bunkbed and also it had wash hand basin, with fridge.
It was a good enough for both of us.
We were looking around with Urike...til we were told we not allowed to go in the living room because she is too busy with her paperworks and create her own books.
We understand and respect her.
I was told, im not allowed to eat the meat or pork at house as they are vegetarain and also Kul. I was only one who eat the meat! I was so moody i couldn't eat the meat at home....i keep thinking 'My favourite lasagne of my mother cooked' But then, i was happy to eat the pasta. Kul loves rice so much, most of nights he cooked the rice...after i teach him how to cook.
I teach him everything, cook, kettle, wash up, dishwasher, microwave and washing machine. He learned so fast, i was so pleased. He can cooked the dinner for me.
The bus was only three minutes from our host home. And the bus was only 20 mins away from Preston, we have to take two different buses to Deafway from Broughton.
Sadly, we were told we have to moved on 27th November 2009 because we were told someone will move in our room so we have to move out.
Where will we live?! Dont want to be homeless!!!! ;)
Ps Urike, thank you so much for having me and Kul at your house for a month, we really having a good time at your house. Thanks again. :)

My Counterpart
Kul Prasad Bhattarai
I have been with him as my counterpart for all the six months. He live in Kathmandu at Nepal but he had been gew up with his family in Syangja. He has two sisters and two brothers. He was only deaf in the family so he had been hearing til he was a 11 year old cos of his illness so it made him deaf. He went to stay at home for two years without school til his father had found a Deaf School in Kathmandu for him. Right now he work for Nepal Foundation for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NFDH). He teaching Nepali Sign Language (NSL) Now he had a girlfriend called Sobita who was also invocled in DGX. We were so different people...I was so wild boy and open minded, and talk a lot. Kul is very private person, quiet and didnt talk very much. It was so challenaged to me a lot, at first we wasn't that close very much, I was trying to talk him and get him talk back. Til we arrive in Nepal, oh my god, we were just so close and talk every night when we were eating our dinner, he suppored me while i was sick and illness, he was so brilliant to me, i learned so much from him, he is very cleaver boy and say whats he think not matter what. I quite liked that. I do miss him even he was pain in the neck, and i do think of him every day even in my dream when i saw him and i just ran to him and give him BIG hug!
